I found a hyacinth in full bloom and tulips breaking through the ground! Every spring I’m surprised at how excited I am to see these small signs that spring is on the way. I don’t realize how much I miss the green grass, warm sun and flowers until they begin to return and I’m thrilled.

Tulips, anemones, daffodils and ranunculus are the earliest flowers of the spring season. They come and go quickly so be sure to join our flower community on the website to ensure you don’t miss them!

Happy New Year! I’m emerging from my winter hibernation for a moment to say hello and wish you a wonderful start to a new year.
I used to dread winter and hate the long, dark, cold season. But another surprising lesson God has taught me through farming is that each season is purposeful. At the end of a long, hot and challenging growing season I now welcome winter and consider it a gift. I look forward to the slower pace and season of rest and reflection.
While I’m not busy in the fields now, I quickly fill my time with planning, researching, reading and learning new growing practices. My mind is swirling with ideas for this year. But I’m trying to resist the urge to do ALL THE THINGS and instead embrace this time of slowness by practicing stillness. It’s hard in our culture to slow down! There seems to always be something demanding our attention. Do you experience the same?

Today I received a piece of wisdom: “Hurry robs us of the beauty God has placed in front of us and the grace others so desperately need.”

We can’t practice gratitude for the many blessings we’ve been given if we don’t even notice them. We have to slow down so we have the time and space to observe, ponder and marvel! So, I invite you to consider these thoughts and to join me this winter in slowing down, making time for introspection, gratitude and stillness.

Photos are from the wintery mix we received this past weekend. We hoped for more snow, but the farm was so beautiful covered in ice! We walked around and studied the icicles and watched the ice melt from the trees.

The farmstand is open today! Come by and shop for those remaining Christmas gifts. We have gorgeous handmade ornaments made from flowers that were grown right here on the farm. We also have gift boxes for them and it makes a great presentation as a gift. Perfect for teachers, neighbors or any flower lover in your life!

To find the farmstand pull into the gravel drive with our sign and pull all the way up to the green building (it’s ok to drive on the grass!)

I’m really bad about remembering to stop and photograph the bouquets and arrangements we send out into the world. I’ve learned the importance of capturing the exceptionally beautiful ones because I know I can’t recreate them no matter how hard I try. Even if I use the same color flowers each and every bouquet is unique and has its own personality. They are a living work of art, fleeting beauty to be treasured while it lasts.
This customer bouquet may just be my favorite from this season (at least until I make another favorite tomorrow)!

Yesterday, one of our dahlias won the Award of Merit in the Dahlias category at the SC State Fair!
This summer we mentored our intern Natalie as she chose to learn about growing dahlias as a project through her local @yorksc4h program. Her goal was to submit several entries at the state fair with the flowers we grew here at the farm. We are so proud of Natalie for winning the Award of Merit with this gorgeous Babylon Bronze bloom!! It’s definitely one of our favorites here and now we can say it is our state fair winner. 😊

Thank you to everyone who came to see us at Curtin Farms Fest today! @curtinfarms always does a fantastic job at creating a fun day for everyone. My heart is so full. I love seeing the smiles on our customers faces as they walk away with our blooms in hand. We sold out today, but we will have flowers for the next couple of weeks so message us to place an order!

Today is my birthday! I gifted myself a couple of days of self care and professional development by attending a conference for specialty flower growers. I’m definitely in my element, meeting other like minded flower folks (flower people are the best people), learning from and sharing knowledge with others. And the highlight today was meeting one of my mentors Lisa M. Ziegler from @gardenersworkshopfarm! I’ve learned so much from her so it was so fun to meet her in person.

Good morning! The sun is shining and we’re waiting for you to join us at the Clover Farmer’s Market today. We’re here until 1pm. Come get some dahlia bouquets to brighten your day. 💐

So many of you have checked on us and the farm. Thank you! Everyone here is safe after one of our large beautiful trees fell on our barn. Most of our animals were inside so we’re grateful they weren’t harmed. Our cellar collected 3 feet of standing water and the flowers took quite the beating. But we are counting our blessings and praying hard for everyone in NC and TN that are suffering so much. Our hearts are hurting at the unimaginable loss they are experiencing.
We are cancelling events here at the farm for the next couple of weeks so that we can focus on repairs and cleanup, but also on ways we can help our neighbors in need. There are many organizations collecting donations and supplies to assist WNC. If you are looking for ways to help and would like some suggestions send us a message.

Fall is here and we’re working hard on a beautiful Spring! Yep…we’re already planning, prepping, sowing, and getting ready to plant seedlings for spring blooms.

Yesterday certainly didn’t feel like the first day of Fall at 90 degrees. 🥵 These gorgeous bronze dahlias are convincing me it’s here though!

Just look at the amazing colors in this harvest for a customer order from this week! Uggghhhh we all drooled over this incredible range of colors and texture. This color palette was chosen for a wedding this past weekend and I’m a BIG fan. The colors remind me of springtime (my fav season) but our fall blooms pulled it off fantastically!
